This project involved the complete refurbishment and first floor extension of a prominent commercial premises on Higher Street in Dartmouth. The property sits between numerous listed buildings and it was imperative that the proposal sat well within its historic context.

To combat this, BBH were employed to produce construction details and supervise the construction. This involved removing the poorly constructed roof and raising the ridge height to create a further storey of accommodation whilst changing the use of the property from a commercial unit to a dwelling.

The basement was previously used for storage and now houses a snug and utility room, the former shop on the ground floor is now a spacious kitchen / living / dining space with the new first floor accommodating two bedrooms and one bathroom.

We feel that the completed structure with its dormer roof and period style joinery and detailing completes the recently rejuvenated Higher Street elevation.
