In recent years BBH Chartered Architects (Dartmouth) Ltd has developed a growing reputation for design based solutions to an affordable housing need across the southwest. We are working with a wide range of affordable housing providers and managers to bring forward often difficult and challenging sites with the inevitable budget restrictions, constraints and complexity that signifies this housing sector.
As a practice we have developed a good working relationship with a number of housing providers and as such have retained knowledge of a range of employers’ requirements. We are then able to take these forward into contemporary and sustainably considered solutions through what is a complex planning process, which embroils housing need, requirements and quite often demanding contextual design and sensitive local authorities who are quite often torn between policy requirements and directives to maximise affordable housing provision.
We have detailed experience of all stages of the provision process and are well positioned in our region to build on our reputation and established relationships with all the southwest regional authorities and housing enabling teams. Through the design and provision process we have also built a good working relationship with key contractors in this sector and are well versed in managing the transfer of priority from planning stage and client appointment through to the novation of our services and the then common place “Design and Build” contractual arrangements which facilitate progression on site.
As a practice we are knowledgeable on all aspects of design necessary for Code for Sustainable Homes compliance and have completed schemes at both Code Level 3 and 4, involving a range of sustainable technologies installed off the back of what we believe to be a sound grounding of performance focused built fabric solutions to exceed both thermal and air tightness requirements and yet still offer the most cost effective and future proof solutions for compliance.
We believe that despite all the restraints both technically and financially there is opportunity in this sector to provide quality housing that can be architecturally challenging and forward thinking. We believe that as part of a team we can offer enhancement and improvement both socially and aesthetically within all the local communities that we become involved.
