CONSERVATION & LISTED BUILDINGS

BBH Chartered Architects (Dartmouth) Ltd continues to develop a growing reputation both locally and regionally for understanding and being able to sensitively interpret required works to historic fabric and listed buildings.

We are fortunate to practice within a region that boasts a wealth of such structures and buildings and as such we have become well versed in learning from them and looking to seek new and rejuvenated uses to suit a client’s need.

We focus heavily on design and look to create adaptation using appropriate and informed building techniques in order to achieve modern and contemporary requirements.

Even if not solely related to one particular historic building or structure, we find that the majority of our projects invariably involve working within the context of historic buildings in some way, shape or form and it is from this basis that much of our modern design philosophy is grounded.

 

Whether reinterpreting the old or learning from it to invent a wiser new, we are constantly involved in understanding our built environment and its history for better and for worse. Through this we are then able to develop designs that succeed and yet avoid compromise and unjustifiable preciousness in this field.

We have completed many successful and commended projects and through this process have built a recognised and important working relationship with statutory conservation bodies, specialist consultants, historians and local authority conservation officers who work in this field and we encourage and value an interactive, co-operative and professional approach in the execution of such work.
