Gates Sayer Construction
The brief from our clients was to explore the possibility of creating two extensions to the existing building in order to facilitate necessary improvements for their intended use of the property. One extension includes ancillary storage and utility space with a bedroom over. The other provides a new garden room extension which is predominantly glazed to provide a contrast to the original farmhouses internal spaces which are somewhat dark with small punched windows that give little view over the scenic gardens that surround the property as it stands.
The work was sequenced to work around the family whilst they maintained occupation and was subsequently handed back in stages culminating with the completion of the new oak framed garden room.
Access to the garden room is via one end of an open plan kitchen dining space and it was the intention to bring natural light from above down into the end of this space via a feature glass and timber stair. This very modern contrasting detail to the existing farmhouse involved close co-ordination with a team of specialist designers and sub-contractors to achieve an end result with which all are proud.
