HILLFIELD PHASE 3, DARTMOUTH

Project:

Hillfield Phase 3, Dartmouth

Client:

Anderton Partners

Contractor:

Sherwell Valley Builders

Value:

£2 million

Hillfield Holiday Park is situated approx. 4km west of Dartmouth, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. BBH Architects have been involved on the site for several years, assisting the Anderton Partnership’s long term plan for full re-development, and having already completed several projects within the Northern area of the site.

To the south, planning approval was granted in February 2006 for the demolition of 51 chalets & the construction of their replacements. The first phase was to construct 8 new units. These units were a move forward from the more traditional & historic buildings located to the North, to units with a more contemporary feel. One of Hillfield’s targets is to provide a mix of accommodation types and styles, avoiding repetition, in an eclectic yet considered mix, with a desire to create the feel of a timeless village atmosphere.

This has been achieved by using a blend of low maintenance materials & very high quality workmanship & finishes, whilst maximising appreciation of Hillfields finest asset – the surrounding countryside. Timber frame was the chosen construction method due to the speed of completion required & sustainable nature of the product.

“Green Tourism” is high on our clients list of priorities and this comes through in the design and future maintenance of the units. External materials are low maintenance, sufficient space is allocated for recycling, visitors are encouraged to learn about the site, it’s development and how they can be “green tourists”. From a construction point of view, the units are all fitted with underfloor heating, rooms are allocated with independent thermostats, they all source heat through independent ground source heat pumps, & each unit is fitted with a whole house ventilation system with heat recovery.

This phase also saw the construction of an on site treatment plant linked to both a vertical and horizontal reed bed filtration system, ensuring that water leaving the site is cleaned to the highest standards.
